Ukrainian Film Club in Ljubljana
Ukrainian Film Club in Ljubljana
On February 11, the Ukrainian Film Club, a new cultural initiative by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Slovenia, was launched in Ljubljana.
The event took place on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and marked the beginning of a series of five screenings of Ukrainian films planned for this year.
The implementation of the project was made possible thanks to the support of the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television. We would like to express our special gratitude to the Deputy Dean Miran Zupanič for his assistance and openness to cooperation.
A significant highlight of the event was the presence of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, Tania Fajon, whom we had the pleasure of welcoming among the guests.
The opening of the film club was accompanied by a screening of the documentary “My dear Theo / “With love from the front””. The film tells the personal story of Ukrainian director Alisa Kovalenko, who became a soldier after the start of a full-scale war, while continuing to record the reality of war in video messages to her young son — as an act of love, memory, and faith in the future.
After the screening, an open conversation with the audience took place, moderated by Ulyana Chebotarenko. Ms. Anastasia, a citizen of Ukraine who currently lives with her child in Slovenia while her husband is on the front line, joined the discussion. Concluding the event, the participants expressed gratitude to all Ukrainian military personnel who defend the state every day, defending its freedom and independence.
