Lesya Ukrainka's 155th Birthday Celebrated in Ljubljana

On February 21, a literary and musical evening commemorating the 155th anniversary of Lesya Ukrainka’s birth was held in Ljubljana, bringing together the Ukrainian community and friends of Ukraine. The event took place in a warm, sincere atmosphere and provided an opportunity to reconnect with Ukrainian literature and culture.

The event was organized as part of the international “Slovenia–Hungary” project “Tribute to the Memory of the 155th Anniversary of Lesya Ukrainka’s Birth,” with the participation of the “Together” NGO, the “Ljubljana–Kyiv” NGO, and the Society of Ukrainian Culture in Hungary.

The program was prepared by performers and actors under the direction of the project’s author, Valentina Lavrynchuk. A special highlight of the evening was the musical accompaniment by Ariadna Bartai, Lesia Ukrainka’s great-grandniece.

Honored guests also joined the event, including:

  • Yaroslava Khortyani—Vice President of the World Congress of Ukrainians, President of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations, and President of the Ukrainian Cultural Society in Hungary;

  • Petro Beshta — Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Slovenia;

  • Oleg Rogoz — Vice President of the Association “Union of Ukrainians in Slovenia RAZOM”;

  • Andriy Hevka — President of the “Ljubljana–Kyiv” Cultural Association;

  • Slavko Burda — Chair of the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Association in Zagreb.

The organizers also thanked the volunteers of our association RAZOM—Olena Krupnik, Olga Kyrychenko, Maria Reznik, Rymma Vatutina, and Viktoria Rudnik—for organizing the event.

Special thanks were extended to the management of Antonov House for their hospitality.

Events like this once again demonstrate that Ukrainian culture continues to resonate abroad and unite people around shared values.
