Ukrainians in Slovenia paid tribute to those who died in Kyiv outside the Slovenian Parliament
Yesterday, on the Day of Mourning declared in Ukraine for the 30 Kyiv residents killed by Russians during a massive nighttime attack on Kyiv on July 2, the Ukrainian community in Slovenia gathered outside the Slovenian Parliament in Ljubljana.
Petro Beshta, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Slovenia, joined the event. Participants stood in silence, holding portraits and symbols of mourning, honoring the memory of those who perished under the rubble of their own homes as a result of the Russian missile and drone strike.
The Ukrainians reminded the Slovenian public of a simple and terrible truth: the deliberate killing of civilians in Ukraine has been ongoing for 12 years since the start of Russian aggression in 2014. And for the past five years—it has happened every single day. Not a single day goes by without shelling, without new victims, without families torn apart.
The participants in the rally agreed to appeal to the Slovenian authorities to finally recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism at the legislative level—just as the European Parliament and a number of EU member states have already done. This is not merely a symbolic gesture, as we at “Razom” emphasize, but a necessary step that reflects the true nature of the Kremlin’s crimes against the civilian population of Ukraine.
